Little Firefly is a beautiful renovated historical homestead bringing history to life, located in the heart of Helensville.
The centre is licensed for 35 children, including 15 under twos, allowing individual quality care and great ratios.
Our caring and passionate teachers build strong and trusting relationships with children and families and provide an environment you can call home away from home.
Children are the foundation of our community and our future. It takes a village to raise a child, and in our case an amazing team of dedicated educators!
Our team of experiences teachers are inspired, passionate and caring and provide the best quality care and education to your little ones.
At Little Firefly we host two learning spaces, our under 2's Teina classroom and our over 2's Tuakana classroom to best support the learning needs and stages of our children.
Our mixed age outdoor space benefits all age groups encouraging Tuakana-Teina relationships. Younger children have opportunities to be extended and challenge themselves, learning new ways to play and think. Older children have opportunities to share their expertise, learn empathy, role model and develop leadership skills.
The health and safety of our children is our number one priority. We have robust systems and knowledgeable teachers to manage risk, hazards, emergencies whilst providing safe an environment where children are able to risk-take and problem solve with support and guidance.
Children learn through play. Our environments and teaching strategies are designed to scaffold children's play - providing them with opportunities to explore, discover, experiment, play and create while developing life long dispositional and practical skills, social learning, emotional literacy and knowledge.
We are guided by Te Whāriki the Early Childhood Curriculum to fulfil the vision that children are competent, and confident learners, healthy in mind, body and spirit, secure in their sense of belonging and in the knowledge that they make a valued contribution to society.
Trusting relationships and learner-focused partnerships are at the heart of our practice, ensuring every child and their whānau feel heard, included and supported.
We recognise and respect the diversity of our tamariki, whānau and community and provide opportunities to contribute to a curriculum that recognises their culture, identity, language and aspirations.
Respectful practice is embedded through positive interactions, nurturing care moments and providing a safe place for children to learn at their own pace.
We offer a play-based learning environment that allows tamariki be themselves, to lead their learning through curiosity and exploration, discover endless possibilities and develop a love of learning.
Our learning environment is viewed as the ‘third teacher’, it is stimulating, inviting and gives tamariki opportunities to explore and learn independently through a wide range of experiences.
Kaiako encourage and scaffold tamariki’s learning to build valuable dispositions such as confidence, resilience, determination, problem solving and independence.
Tuakana - Teina relationships are encouraged, tamariki have opportunities to learn from one another, build social awareness, leadership, kindness and empathy.
We honour and acknowledge the unique place of Māori as tangata whenua of Aotearoa. Te reo Māori and tikanga Māori are valued and are an integral part of our teaching and learning, fostering success for Māori and all learners.
